SAP ECC to S/4HANA Migration

At Advisory IS Solutions (AIS), we are proud to operate as a fully independent ERP consulting firm. We do not work for or receive compensation from any ERP vendor, including SAP. This independence allows us to provide unbiased guidance and hands-on support, tailored specifically to our clients’ needs.

Recently, our team supported a mining client in Ontario during their transition from SAP ECC to S/4HANA. For this engagement, we provided the project management oversight to ensure that the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) was tightly followed given the approach and methodology we set out.

A breakdown of this project is available to watch right here and below we get into more details and outcome of the project.

User Acceptance Testing on SAP S/4HANA

The focus of this project is the critical preparation phase for user acceptance, ensuring a seamless migration to S/4HANA. Our team was directly involved in:

  • Team Training and Testing: Conducting hands-on workshops with 36 users across Finance, Materials Management (MM), Plant Maintenance (PM), and reporting to ensure they are confident and prepared for the new system.
  • Data Validation: Verifying master data and financial details to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Monitoring Test Execution: Tracking daily pass/fail results against target timelines, providing visibility and accountability throughout the testing phase.
  • Issue Tracking and Escalation: Identifying, documenting, and resolving issues as they arise, preventing bottlenecks during the transition.
  • Activity Tracking: Collaborating closely with the project team to track the work plans daily by area and by resource to ensure we are tracking on time and meeting the overall timeline.

Outcome and Results

By taking a hands-on approach, we achieved measurable results given our tight deadlines, and the completion of User Acceptance Testing (UAT):

  • Improved User Confidence: Higher comfort levels navigating SAP S/4HANA processes and understanding their roles, responsibilities, Change Management, and Business Readiness.
  • Issue Resolution Efficiency: Daily monitoring and escalation have reduced potential roadblocks, keeping the project on track.
  • Data Integrity Assurance: Validated financial and master data reducing risk of errors during migration.
  • Seamless Collaboration: By embedding ourselves on-site, we have strengthened communication between IT, finance and operations teams and completed the ser acceptance training and testing objectives on time.

At AIS, we don’t just advise from behind a screen, we partner with our clients wherever they need us across Canada. Supporting ERP transformations hands-on, with practical expertise and a commitment to results, is what sets us apart.
